WATER,SANITATION AND HYGIENE [WASH]

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

Universal, affordable and sustainable access to water, sanitation and hygiene is a key public health issue as well as a human right. Water has also been mentioned 63 times in the Quran, indicating that its provision is one of the greatest charities in Islam. Therefore, it is a form of charity given in demonstration of one’s commitment and belief in Allah. In addition to representing the ‘truth’ element. Accordingly, the ‘Power’ comes from the lasting effect that the charity provides through its ongoing benefits. This means your one-time donation will ensure hundreds of people will have life-giving water for years and years to come and you will continue earning rewards for this.

Millions of people in East Africa are struggling to access safe water. Every 8 out of every 10 people lack access to clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The growing impact of climate change has caused rainy seasons to fail year after year, so that severe droughts have become regular in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Water shortages have caused displacement, diarrhoea-related deaths and a rise in malnutrition. Most residents live in rural communities and spend hours every day walking to collect dirty water or find a safe place to relieve themselves. Dirty water and poor hygiene spread disease, meaning even more time is lost to sickness – time that could have been spent on work or education. Building a well is ceaseless charity – Sadaqah Jariyah. In Arabic, Sadaqah Jariyah comes from the word sidq which means truth and power.

The URF always encourages donors to sponsor hand pumps in as many areas as possible.

These simple devices are true life-saving measures for people, not only directly, but also indirectly, by also providing water for their animals and crop fields.

The URF utilises handpumps which are long-lasting, easily maintainable, serviceable and replaceable when needed.

The URF identifies areas where the need is greatest and where the most people can benefit from the water provided.

We ensure that the specifications of the water well not only cater for the current drinking needs of the people, but also has the capacity to cater for their animals and farmlands as well as their religious and hygienic needs.

Furthermore, the water wells are dug to such depths to ensure that they will not dry out and will continue to cater for the population growth of the area.

Once your Water Well is installed within 3 to 6 months, you will receive a complete report of your project with location and pictures. Donors will also get a detailed feedback report and have a permanent plaque on site that confirms their donation. This is done for the sake of transparency and because many of the beneficiaries make dua for the donor.

A handpump typically benefits an entire village or sometimes two or three villages in more densely populated areas.
